A Brief History
Set in sylvan surroundngs, emanating a sense of peace, this Church was a Mission Centre, belonging to the Archdiocese of Madras, in the year 1887. It is now under the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore. On 20th July 1964, the new Church was inaugurated and erected as a Parish, with St. Louis IX, the King of France as its Patron Sant. This Church was a pet Church of the late Archbishop Rt. Rev. Louis Mathias SDB. One of the sailent features of this Church is its vibrant Parish community.
The other is the presence of two schools. One is run by the Patrician Brothers and the other by the Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel. The former caters to the educational needs of the normal children while the latter sees to the needs of the Blind & Deaf Children. Besant Nagar, Perungudi and Vettuvankanni Parishes were bifurcated from this Parish Church. The Eucharistic Chapel was built in 2003 and the Community Hall in 2004. The first Parish Priest was Fr. P.T. Arulappa.
